Synth Dungeon
Of the objects that have been created by humankind, I do feel a profound affinity for the synthesizers.**In the sense that synthesizers are electronic sound makers, know what I mean, SEO lord? **
Korg Monotribe
Extremely portable analog monosynth, with funky simple to use drummachine that sounds really nice. Modded with this kit ()Korg Volca Beats
From my perspective people that complain about the snare in this probably don't enjoy the same things in life that I do, and while I try not to hold grudges, I do.TBH, there's plenty to complain about in the world, but this machine isn't a part of that incredible list.
It's very lo-fi, but that's 100% the charm. The noise floor adds authentic vibes to any situation.
Elektron Digitakt
5 outta 5. Now that the 2nd edition is out, people are letting these go for cheapish. Whatever issues whiners talk about with this thing, it doesn't matter to me.Believe me I will complain about it's inablilty to make thousands of music fans clamoring in cult-like fervor for me, but again that's only after a few drinks. The interface just makes sense and is enjoyable to me in way that few devices are.
Yamaha PSR-36
I learned about this synth many moons ago, and was lucky enough to acquire one at a really low price. Considered by Yamaha home keyboard enthusiasts as one of the best FM synths with FRONT PANEL SLIDERS to shape the sound, this one funky lo-fi keyboard.I use it primarily as a MIDI keyboard to input note data into the Digitakt, but the sounds are very reminiscent of the late 1980's/early 1990's FM computer soundcards (AKA peak technology). For yours truly, a desert island synth, with nice speakers, a programmable drum section (with cool drum sounds), and even 1-finger bassline/harmony generation.
Korg Volca FM
A VHS tape-sized DX7, perfect for portable FMness. I don't use the inbuilt sequencer too much, except sometimes to record notes played on the PSR-36 through the Digitakt before switching patterns. Kind of like a temporary looper, but it works great for that case. The arpeggiator is awesome for making chuggy basslines.Initially bought it while staying in far eastern Washington while seperated from my studio to scratch an FM itch. Editing it on the device itself isn't terribly great, but if youever tried editing a patch on the DX7 it's considerably better.
The knob interface doesn't get too much attention from me, as I prefere using the Digitakt to send MIDI CC infor to it. Some folks might be disturbed by the 3 voice polyphony, but there's plenty else in this strange world to be disturbed by.
Division Department 01/IV
I saw this being used by Ess and it is cool AF. It's been great for all sort of analog bass drummy goodness, along with tight percussive noise for higher frequency sounds.Typically it's been sequenced either by the Korg Volca Beats or the Korg Miditribe as those devices don't have a bunch of MIDI configuration settings, but instead (luckily) the notes out form the drum voices correspond to the voices on the Division Department 01/IV. I've try using other sequncers to drive it but for my caveman brain the less immediate the results, the more likely the darkness will return.
